Devotion 4-3-24, Psalm 62:5-6- "My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be shaken." Cling to God as a child clings to its parent. Cling to God all the more as trouble approaches. Cling to Him and trust Him. Cling to Him, unashamed of your dependence upon Him alone. We tend to have difficulty with dependence. Our message to our children is grow up and stand on your own two feet. Grow up and be independent. Perhaps we have been teaching our children to lack trust in God. Perhaps we have encouraged them in the wrong direction. If we are to cling and depend on God, always, should we teach our next generation to do the opposite? Our society pressures us to look out for ourselves, to stand up for our rights, to consider our needs and wants above all others. That is not God's way. The psalmist knew God and His ways. He knew God was his source, not himself. He speaks to himself, and tells himself what to do. "Wait for God." "Hope in God." "Trust God for salvation, steadiness, and a solid foundation." He speaks to himself about his need for God and what he knows of God; he speaks to himself about his dependence on God. In order to depend on God, we must know Him. How well do you know God? How well do your children know God? Can you feel safe with God? Can your children? They model what you model. They follow what you do. God requires a deeply intimate relationship based upon knowing His word, believing His word, acting on His word, depending on His word, and living in it as the Holy Spirit lives in you. A relationship with God is never done; but rather deepens and widens everyday. Seek Him, cling to Him, trust Him. God is the most dependable part of your life.
