Devotion 4-9-24, Joshua 1:5- "No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you." This is God's promise to Joshua. Joshua had investigated the Promised Land as one of the 12 spies, 40 years earlier. Joshua and Caleb came back speaking faith in God's provision, but the other 10 came back, lacking faith, and producing rebellion in the Jewish camp. This resulted in 40 years of wandering in the wilderness. Only Joshua and Caleb survived from that generation. Now, Joshua had to exercise great faith in God. God chose him to lead the new generation into the Promised Land. God promised His presence with Joshua and, once God promises something, it will not fail! This was true over 3500 years ago and it is just as true today. God makes promises and He keeps His promises. God's promises apply to us as they applied to others. God will never leave you or forsake you. God will forgive you if you ask Him. God will live in you as the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus sent after His ascension into Heaven. God will give you words to speak. God will give you a new heart. God will be your solid rock, your safe protection, your healer, your answer to prayer prayed in His name, for His sake, based on His reputation. God will keep His promises. Abraham believed God's promise of a son and received that son in his old age. Isaac was a son of promise. The Apostle Paul says, 2 Corinthians 1:20- "For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen (which means "yes") to the glory of God through us." Perhaps one of the biggest promises of God concerns our adoption. Romans 8:14- "For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons (and daughters) of God." As you read your Bible, look for promises God seems to be speaking to your heart. Write "promise" in the margin so you don't forget. Ask God if that promise is yours. If yes, then believe Him!
