Devotion 3-12-24, Psalms 86:11- "Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear Your name." This psalm is a prayer of David. It is proof that, while culture may change, people, in the end, are just people, no matter the centuries between them. In verse 1, David says he is afflicted and needy. He asks God to preserve his soul, be gracious to him, to make his soul glad, and to listen to his prayer. Verse 7 says, "In the day of my trouble, I shall call upon You, for You will answer me." David exalted God and prayed for God to teach him; he prayed for God to unite his heart. The opposite of a united heart is a double-minded heart; a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. (James 1:8) The issues are wisdom and faith. David asked God for direction and instruction. James 1:5-6 a, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith without any doubting..." David says in verses 15-16a, "But You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, Slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and truth. Turn to me, and be gracious to me; Oh grant Your strength to Your servant,..." Those with a united heart are those who know God's word, believe the author, and put full faith in Him. Those who seek a united heart, seek God and His wisdom. Those seeking a united heart will lay their lives before God, trusting His ways and obediently submitting their lives to Him alone. They may say, as David said in verse 17, " Show me a sign for good, That those who hate me may see it and be ashamed, Because You, O Lord, have helped me and comforted me." Refuse to be double-minded; ask God to unite your heart in Him.
